06 Nov Paul Wellstead on turning Seaham site into a thriving business community.
“When I first unveiled my plans for Spectrum Business Park, I think many people thought I was crazy! Seaham wasn’t really known as being a business location of choice and back then the town looked nothing like it does now”
10 years ago the land Spectrum Business Park is built on was nothing but wasteland. Despite East Durham’s bad reputation and its lack of connection with business and enterprise – Paul Wellstead, a successful Property Developer, had a vision to create a thriving business community here in Seaham. He believed that one day, the empty plots could become a place where businesses would grow, thrive and expand.
10 years on and not only has the land been transformed, it’s now home to Spectrum Business Park and multiple organisations, CEOs, employees and teams. Seaham the town it self has completely transformed too.
In a recent article published in East Business Durham Magazine, Leanne Fawcett (the Founder of the Magazine) interviewed Paul about his journey and the growth of the park.
Paul Said; “I think back then there were a few people who thought I was stark raving mad, including a number of property agents.”
“But I knew that with such a fantastic location for commuters and a town that was beginning to attract major investment, creating a prime business location capable of accommodating serious national and international companies was possible. It was just maybe going to take a bit longer to make it happen than I initially hoped.”
Now Spectrum Business Park is home to growing national and international businesses with approximately 3,000 employees based here at the park.
